Johnny, a bright 6-year-old, was waiting at the bus stop with his mum one day. As they stood there, his mum leaned down and whispered, “When we get on the bus, I’ll buy a ticket for myself. If the driver asks, tell him you’re 5, so I won’t have to pay for you.”
Johnny nodded, even though he wasn’t quite sure why this was necessary.
The bus arrived, and they climbed aboard. Mum purchased an adult return ticket to the town centre, and the driver glanced at Johnny with a friendly smile.
“What’s your name, young man?” the driver asked.
“I’m Johnny!” he replied proudly.
“And how old are you, Johnny?”
“I’m 5 years old,” he said confidently.
The driver chuckled and asked, “And when will you be 6?”
Johnny, without missing a beat, grinned and said, “As soon as I get off the bus!”
